What was initially unveiled as a customised bike, can now very well hit full-fledged production.
TVS first showcased its interpretation of a scrambler bike at the 2023 MotoSoul. It was called the TVS Ronin SCR and it was one of the four Ronin-based custom motorcycles the marque had shortlisted for display at the motorcycling event. What made the custom bike stand out was that it was built in-house by TVS engineers and not by a custom bike builder like the other three concepts showcased. The latest patent images filed by the Hosur-based company now indicate that it plans to see the Ronin SCR fruition into a proper production offering.
If TVS goes ahead with its plans, the Indian market will stand to gain another new scrambler, which has become the new popular niche segment. Some of the notables include Triumph’s Scrambler 400X, Yezdi Scrambler, and Royal Enfield’s aging Scram 411.
Most likely the TVS Ronin SCR will be powered by the same 225.9 cc, oil-cooled, single-cylinder engine albeit subtle tunes. So for starters, the 20.2 bhp/19.93 Nm power/torque output might remain the same, but the power delivery and gear ratios might be tweaked to suit the scrambler’s characteristics.
Going by the new patent image, the TVS Ronin SCR looks quite functional and ideal for scrambling. Right from the long travel suspensions at both ends, scrambler-styled seat, and down to the side panels and the overall ergonomics of it all. It was also fitted with knobby tyres, which we expect will be available as options, something on the lines of “Built-To-Order”, probably.
Exact details about the TVS Ronin SCR’s launch and price are too soon to guess. However, given the bike is based on the Ronin which starts from ₹1.50 lakh, the scrambler could carry a premium of ₹ 20,000 over the standard bike and might be launched in the second half of 2024.
