Several highly anticipated vehicle launches and facelifts spanning SUVs, electric vehicles, luxury sedans and plug-in hybrids are expected in India between July and December 2026, potentially influencing thousands of consumer buying decisions.
India's automotive market is gearing up for an eventful second half of 2026, with several highly anticipated launches and facelifts across segments. From mainstream SUVs and electric vehicles to luxury sedans and plug-in hybrids, automakers are preparing a diverse lineup that could influence buying decisions for thousands of consumers over the coming months.
While launch timelines and specifications remain subject to change, several models have either been confirmed or are widely expected to arrive before the end of the year. Here's a look at the key launches expected between July and December 2026.
Sedan segment: Volkswagen, Skoda and Mercedes-Benz updates incoming
Volkswagen Virtus facelift
Expected towards the end of 2026, the updated Volkswagen Virtus is likely to receive both cosmetic and mechanical revisions. Industry reports suggest that the 1.0-litre TSI automatic variant could move from the existing 6-speed torque converter to a newer 8-speed automatic transmission. The larger 1.5-litre TSI engine is expected to continue with the 7-speed DSG gearbox.
Feature additions may include an updated infotainment system, ADAS technology, a 360-degree camera, and rear-seat comfort enhancements.
Skoda Slavia facelift

Sharing its underpinnings with the Virtus, the Skoda Slavia facelift is also expected to arrive in the final quarter of 2026. Similar powertrain updates are anticipated, including the possibility of an 8-speed automatic transmission for the 1.0-litre TSI variants.
Mercedes-Benz S-Class facelift

Mercedes-Benz is set to introduce the facelifted S-Class in India on June 15. One of the biggest highlights is expected to be the S 450e plug-in hybrid, marking the first time the flagship luxury sedan receives a PHEV powertrain in the Indian market. Alongside updated styling, buyers can expect revised technology and comfort features.
Subcompact SUVs: Thar, and Volkswagen's new entrant
Mahindra Thar facelift

The popular off-road SUV is expected to receive a mid-cycle update around August 2026. The facelift is likely to bring styling elements inspired by the Mahindra Thar Roxx, along with an upgraded cabin featuring a larger touchscreen, wireless charging, and additional convenience features.
Engine options are expected to remain unchanged, including the 1.5-litre diesel, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol, and 2.2-litre diesel units.
Volkswagen Tera

Volkswagen's upcoming subcompact SUV, the Tera, is expected to debut around November. Based on the MQB-A0-IN platform, the model is likely to rival the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and Skoda Kylaq.
Power is expected to come from the familiar 1.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine producing around 114 bhp and 178 Nm.
Compact SUVs: Nissan, Honda, BYD and JSW enter the spotlight
Nissan Tekton

Scheduled for launch on July 9, the Nissan Tekton will be a crucial product for the Japanese automaker in India. Positioned against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Renault Duster, the SUV is expected to offer 1.0-litre and 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine options.
The biggest question remains how Nissan will differentiate the Tekton from its Renault sibling.
Honda ZR-V

Honda has already unveiled the ZR-V in India and commenced bookings. Deliveries are expected to begin in July. Imported as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), the SUV will be powered by Honda's 2.0-litre e:HEV strong-hybrid system paired with an e-CVT transmission.
Honda has confirmed features such as Honda Sensing ADAS, eight airbags, a 360-degree camera, and a claimed fuel efficiency figure of 22.8 kmpl.
JSW's Jetour T2-based plug-in hybrid SUV

JSW is expected to enter India's passenger vehicle market before Diwali with a model based on the Jetour T2. Globally, the SUV is available with a plug-in hybrid setup featuring a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 26.7 kWh battery pack, offering a claimed electric-only range of 139 km.
India-specific specifications and pricing, however, remain undisclosed.
BYD Seal U plug-in hybrid

BYD is expected to introduce its first plug-in hybrid SUV in India by the end of 2026. Known as the Seal U or Sealion 6 in some markets, the SUV uses the company's DM-i hybrid technology, which prioritises electric driving while using the petrol engine primarily as a range extender.
Globally, BYD claims a combined range exceeding 1,200 km.
Electric vehicles: Sierra EV and Syros EV headline the list
Kia Syros EV
Expected to arrive in August, the Kia Syros EV could emerge as one of the most significant mass-market electric vehicle launches of the year. Positioned against the Tata Nexon EV and MG Windsor, the electric SUV is expected to feature battery packs in the 42 kWh to 49 kWh range.
Official specifications are yet to be announced.
VinFast VF 3

Vietnamese manufacturer VinFast is expected to launch the VF 3 in India around October. The compact urban EV is likely to feature an 18.64 kWh battery pack and a claimed range of up to 215 km.
Industry observers expect VinFast to explore a battery-as-a-service (BaaS) model to make the vehicle more affordable.
Tata Sierra EV

Among the most anticipated launches of 2026, the Tata Sierra EV is expected to arrive between July and September. Based on Tata Motors' Acti.ev+ architecture, the SUV is likely to offer both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations.
Reports suggest battery pack options of approximately 55 kWh and 65 kWh, although final specifications remain unconfirmed.
Should buyers wait?
The answer depends largely on the segment and budget.
For buyers shopping under ₹10 lakh, there are relatively few major launches expected in the immediate future, making current offerings attractive. However, those considering compact SUVs may benefit from waiting until the festive season, when products such as the Volkswagen Tera, and Nissan Tekton are expected to arrive.
Meanwhile, electric vehicle buyers in the ₹15 lakh to ₹25 lakh bracket may want to hold off until more clarity emerges around the Kia Syros EV and Tata Sierra EV.
With manufacturers increasingly focusing on electrification, hybrid technology, and feature-rich updates, the second half of 2026 promises to be one of the most competitive periods for India's automotive market in recent years.
