The as-yet-unnamed SUV will go on sale in India by March 2025.
Recently, Skoda India announced its plans to launch a subcompact SUV in the market. The as-yet-unnamed SUV has been spotted testing in India already. Since it is the first time it has been spotted, the SUV can be seen with heavy camouflage.
The spy shots only show the rear of the upcoming subcompact SUV. It can be seen with a raked rear windscreen, C-shaped taillamps, number plate housing on the tailgate, spoiler-mounted third stop light, roof rails and a shark-fin antenna. The bumper also had two big reflectors but it remains to be seen if their placement will be changed for the production version.
The upcoming Skoda SUV is expected to get a single-pane sunroof like the Kushaq, as well as a large infotainment touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, digital instrument cluster and more.
Under the hood, it will get the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with roughly the same power output as the Kushaq and Slavia. It is likely to produce 84 bhp and 178 Nm and come mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
The new subcompact will be based on the MQB-A0-IN platform but will measure under four metres in length. Skoda India claims that the new model will be its most affordable offering in India.
Furthermore, Skoda has shortlisted five names for its upcoming subcompact SUV – Kariq, Kymaq, Kyroq, Kwiq and Kylaq. However, it is also open to suggestions from the public and for that, it is running a #NameYourSkoda contest. Skoda says the name should start with ‘K’ and end with ‘Q’, to follow the naming scheme of its other SUVs – the Kodiaq, Kushaq, Karoq and Kamiq. The final name of the SUV will be announced next month and it will go on sale by March 2025.
