Unlike the Speed T4, this motorcycle isn’t going to be that big of a step down in terms of hardware and capabilities from the Scrambler 400X
Bajaj’s iterative tendencies seemed to have been passed on to its British partner, Triumph, as a new variant of the Scrambler 400X has been spotted. It seems to be more of a middle ground between the Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400X, suggesting that Bajaj might increase the asking price of the latter to accommodate this new bike soon. This is similar to how the Speed T4 was introduced earlier this year with a more affordable price tag of ₹2.17 lakh, while the Speed 400’s was hiked up to ₹2.40 lakh (both prices, ex-showroom India).
Essentially what has changed on the test mule from the Scrambler are mainly visual parts. The rolling chassis seems to be more or less the same with similar suspension and brake components on offer. The tyres are no longer Metzeler Tourance but rather MRF options. And even the USD fork has a simple black casing, instead of a golden one.
The engine is likely to witness some change in tune as well. Whether the T4’s mellow 30.6 bhp/36 Nm tune is going to be made available here or the same 39.5 bhp/37.5 Nm engine output will continue to be available remains to be seen. We think it is likely to be the latter as the bike still sports a ride-by-wire system, something that was lacking from the T4’s mill.
Few other changes that were spotted were the missing tank grips, a new stock small visor and the split seat setup making way for a flatter single piece unit. The latter could be done to make the bike more accessible for shorter riders, the current bike’s saddle current standing at 835 mm. The side panels are also quite different, rectangular ones appearing here instead of the round number plate holders. Lastly, the rear section appears to be quite different as well with the LED tail light similar to that of other Bajaj bikes.
We should be getting to know more about the new Scrambler variant early next year. Currently, Triumph is offering some additional accessories with the Scrambler 400X as part of its year-end scheme. Here's more info on the offer.
