The refreshed Grand Vitara will borrow design cues from the recently revealed e Vitara electric SUV.
Maruti Suzuki is working on a new derivative of the Grand Vitara and it has now been spied testing in India again. There are speculations that it could be the three-row derivative of the Grand Vitara that has been expected to launch in India for a while, or it could be the facelifted version of Maruti Suzuki’s compact SUV.
The latest spy shots of the updated or three-row Grand Vitara give a clearer picture. While the previous spy shots had heavy, blacked-out camouflage, the latest images have a more traditional, white camouflage that hints at various design elements of the compact SUV.
While the dimensions of the test mule do hint that it is an elongated version of the Grand Vitara, there are no clear images of the interior to confirm a third row of seats. However, this does not rule out the fact that Maruti Suzuki could launch a seven-seater version of the Grand Vitara on this platform with the dimensions of the test mule.
As for the design, the updated Grand Vitara will borrow a lot of the styling elements from the recently revealed e Vitara electric SUV. The spy shots show a redesigned grille, bumpers and headlamps. In profile, the elongation of the Grand Vitara can be seen primarily behind the rear doors, which may lead you to think this is the three-row version of the Grand Vitara.
At the back, the refreshed Grand Vitara will, again, borrow design cues from the e Vitara. The compact SUV will have a full-width lightbar with a similar design for the taillamps as the electric SUV. Even the alloy wheels of the facelifted Grand Vitara will be completely different from the outgoing model.
The interior of the new Grand Vitara is not visible in the new spy shots but previous ones have hinted it will get a large, freestanding unit. Other features in the compact SUV will include ADAS, 360-degree cameras, a panoramic sunroof and more.
While powertrain details still remain a mystery, it won’t be surprising to see Maruti Suzuki continuing with the same 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre petrol-hybrid powertrain options like the current Grand Vitara. The new Grand Vitara is also likely to spawn an updated Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. The refreshed Grand Vitara could either be launched later this year or in 2026.
