The ID.4 will come to India as a completely built unit and could be priced around ₹50 - 60 lakh (ex-showroom).
At its Annual Brand Conference 2024, Volkswagen showcased the ID.4 and confirmed that the electric vehicle will be its first electric vehicle in India. While the German brand has not confirmed the specifications of the ID.4 coming to India, it has confirmed that the EV will come as a completely built unit (CBU).
The ID.4 is a popular electric model for Volkswagen, having sold more than 2 lakh units globally since its launch in 2020. It’s the second model in Volkswagen’s ID series of electric vehicles, the first being the ID.3 hatchback.
The electric SUV from Volkswagen is available in multiple trim levels but it remains to be seen which one the brand will bring to India. The ID.4 gets the Standard, S and S Plus trims with all getting a Pro version as well.
The ID.4 is available with two battery packs – a 62 kWh and an 82 kWh unit. The former has a claimed range of up to 336 km and is only available with the single-motor, rear-wheel-drive (RWD) variants. The larger battery pack is available with the single-motor, RWD and dual-motor, all-wheel-drive (AWD) variants. With the 82kWh battery pack, the RWD variants get a claimed range of up to 443 km, while the AWD variants get a claimed range of up to 410 km on a single charge.
The RWD ID.4 develops 201 bhp, while the AWD version churns out 295 bhp. All variants of the ID.4 produce 229 Nm. The ID.4 comes with an 11 kW onboard charger and the Pro versions also get support for up to 135 kW DC fast charging.
The ID.4 is a striking-looking vehicle with slim headlights that are connected by a thin, Black strip. The ID.4 also has a lot of curves, especially in profile, helping it give a very rounded design. Like most electric vehicles, the ID.4 also features flush-fitting door handles and aero-designed door handles.
Inside, the ID.4 gets two displays with the larger 12-inch infotainment touchscreen taking centre stage. It also gets a 5.3-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, panoramic sunroof, reverse camera and adaptive cruise control, among others.
While there’s no confirmation on the pricing, expect Volkswagen to price the ID.4 around ₹50 - 60 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The ID.4 will rival the likes of the upcoming Skoda Enyaq, Volvo XC40 Recharge, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6.
