The Taigun Trail Edition is the first Volkswagen model to offer a dashcam in India.
Volkswagen India has launched the Taigun Trail Edition at ₹ 16.30 lakh (ex-showroom, India), as a part of its GT Edge Collection. It is priced identical to the Taigun GT 1.5 MT variant, and like it, it is available with the same powertrain option. Additionally, the Taigun Trail Edition also sees the addition of a dashcam.
The Taigun Trail Edition is offered in three colour options – Candy White, Reflex Silver and Carbon Steel Grey. It also gets Trail-inspired graphics on the side, a ‘Trail Edition’ badge on the boot as well as blacked-out alloy wheels. The blacked-out treatment extends to the window surrounds and roof, while the outside rearview mirrors (ORVMs) get a red accent. The Trail Edition is also the only Taigun to get functional roof rails.
Inside, the Taigun Trail Edition gets an all-black theme with red contrast stitching. It also gets ‘Trail’ embossed on the seatbacks, puddle lamps with the ‘Volkswagen’ logo and stainless steel foot pedals. In terms of features, it gets everything that the standard GT 1.5 MT variant gets, such as a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charger, hill start assist, TPMS, reverse camera, automatic headlamps and more.
The standout feature of the Taigun Trail edition is the dual-lens dashcam to record exterior and interior footage. It gets a 5.08 cm (2-inch) IPS LCD display, a 140-degree field of view lens for external footage, loop recording, impact sensors, motion detection, parking monitor, automatic recording with engine start and more. It is the first Volkswagen model to offer a dashcam as standard.
Under the hood, the Taigun Trail Edition is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 148 bhp and 250 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The Taigun Trail Edition directly competes with the Hyundai Creta Adventure Edition (₹ 15.17 lakh-17.89 lakh) as the latter is the only other compact SUV to offer a dashcam. The standard Taigun competes with the Skoda Kushaq, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, MG Astor, Honda Elevate and Citroen C3 Aircross.
