The ES90 electric sedan will have a range of up to 700 km and is based on 800-volt architecture.
Ahead of its global debut on March 5, Volvo has revealed a few details of the ES90 electric sedan. The ES90 was first teased at the global launch of the EX90 and XC90 SUVs in September.
Volvo claims the ES90 will have a range of up to 700 km. The ES90’s 800-volt architecture has lighter electric motors which Volvo claims helps reduce the weight of the electric sedan, while also improving the efficiency. The ES90 also has a new battery management software which Volvo says allows the battery to be charged from 10-80 per cent in 20 minutes, down by 30 per cent compared to other Volvo EVs.
The ES90 also focuses on sustainability as it comes with natural and recycled materials which Volvo claims helps reduce its CO2 emissions. 29 per cent of the aluminium and 18 per cent of the steel used in the ES90 is recycled. Also, 16 per cent of the ES90 is recycled polymers and bio-based materials. The ES90’s wood panels are also certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.
Along with these details, Volvo has shared another teaser of the ES90. This time, it’s shown two images of the rear of the electric sedan. It shares its taillamp design with the S90, obviously, but it also gets LED light strips on either side of the rear windscreen. The charging port will be on the left rear fender, unlike the S90 which is on the right rear fender. It is expected to get Volvo’s signature Thor’s Hammer LED lighting signature up front.
The ES90 is the first electric sedan from Volvo. It uses a dual Nvidia Drive AGX Orin configuration, which Volvo claims makes it the brand’s most powerful car in terms of computing power. It also has multiple safety features like a LIDAR sensor, five radars and eight cameras.
