While Volvo India didn’t mention a timeline, both SUVs will be updated this year.

At a recent media interaction, Volvo Car India confirmed that its two petrol-powered SUVs will soon be E20 fuel compliant. This means the XC60 and XC90 SUVs will get updated engines that will be compatible with the 20 per cent petrol-ethanol blend (E20) fuel.

While Volvo India did not specify when these two will be updated, it is confirmed that the updated XC60 and XC90 will be launched in India before the end of 2024. This is done before E20 fuel becomes a norm from 2025 onwards.

The Volvo XC60 is powered by a 2.0-litre twin-turbocharged petrol engine with a 48V mild-hybrid assist and an 8-speed automatic transmission, producing 250 bhp and 350 Nm. The E20 compliance isn’t expected to change the output of the powertrain.

The XC90 is also powered by a 2.0-litre twin-turbocharged petrol engine with a 48V mild-hybrid assist and an 8-speed automatic transmission. However, the larger SUV produces 300 bhp and 420 Nm. Like the E20 update for the XC60’s powertrain, the output of the XC90’s powertrain isn’t also likely to change.

Currently, the XC60 is priced at ₹68.90 lakh and the XC90 is priced at ₹1.01 crore (both, ex-showroom, India). After the E20 update, expect the prices of both SUVs to be hiked marginally.
