Large-capacity Harley-Davidson motorcycles may soon become significantly more affordable in India as the government considers eliminating import duties on motorcycles above 750cc. This potential change, part of ongoing trade negotiations with the United States, could reduce prices of premium Harley models by 20-30 per cent, making these iconic American motorcycles accessible to more Indian enthusiasts. Under the proposed duty elimination, flagship models would see substantial price reductions.

This development builds upon earlier duty reductions introduced in the 2025 Union Budget, which lowered import tariffs from 50 per cent to 40 per cent for motorcycles up to 1600 cc, and from 50 per cent to 30 per cent for those above 1600cc.
Moreover, the proposed duty elimination extends beyond motorcycles, forming part of a broader trade strategy to improve India-US relations. While the abolition of import tax might not increase sales volumes, drastically lower prices. However, it might eventually lead Harley-Davidson to restart local assembly operations in India which the Milwaukee-based manufacturer discontinued in 2020.
