Despite the excitement, the SU7 is more a statement of technological prowess than an imminent market entry for India.
In a surprising yet strategic move, Xiaomi India showcased its first electric car, the SU7 EV, as part of its 10th anniversary. The event for the company's partners, stakeholders, and the general public marks Xiaomi's ambitious foray into the automobile space. However, despite the excitement, it appears that the SU7 is more a statement of technological prowess than an imminent market entry for India.
The SU7, which debuted in China earlier this year, quickly gained traction with over 88,000 pre-orders on the first day of bookings. Xiaomi revealed that its entire production capacity for 2024, amounting to 120,000 units, has already been reserved. This rapid uptake underscores the robust demand for high-performance electric vehicles in China.

The specifications of the SU7 are impressive. The base model, priced at RMB 215,900 (approx. ₹24.90 lakh), features a 73.6 kWh battery with a claimed range of up to 700 km and a top speed of 210 kmph. It accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.28 seconds. The mid-range SU7 Pro offers an 830 km range with a 94.3 kWh battery. The top-end SU7 Max, equipped with dual electric motors and all-wheel drive, has a 101 kWh battery, a top speed of 265 kmph, and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 2.78 seconds, although its range is slightly lower at 800 km. This model is priced at RMB 299,900 (approx. ₹34.59 lakh).

A standout feature of the SU7 is Xiaomi Pilot, the company's Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) based on an Nvidia Drive Orin SoC, available in camera-only and radar-enhanced versions. The vehicle also boasts a sleek design, inspired by a water droplet in zero gravity, with a record-breaking drag coefficient of 0.195 Cd, and features a 16.1-inch central touchscreen.

The showcasing of the SU7 at the MWC trade show in Barcelona earlier this year hints at Xiaomi's potential plans to expand into Europe. However, the lack of any announcement regarding a launch in India suggests that Xiaomi is carefully evaluating its steps before committing to new markets.
