What are the mandatory documents required to obtain a driving licence in Gandhinagar RTO?
Applicants need to submit their proof of age and proof of address documents. Below are the documents required under each category:

Do I have to apply for a retest for renewing my expired driving licence?
A grace period of 30 days is provided when you need to renew the driving licence; however, if you are renewing the DL post the grace period, you will have to pay the required late fee and proceed to renew the DL. If you apply for the renewal after 5 years of the expiry, you will have to take a retest before the DL can be renewed.
Do I have to produce a medical certificate to obtain a driving licence from Gandhinagar RTO?
A medical certificate is required if the applicant is more than 50 years of age while renewing the driving licence. Also, applicants for commercial driving licences will have to mandatorily submit the medical certificate.
Where can I get an international driving licence?
You can obtain the international driving licence otherwise known as International Driving Permit (IDP) from the local RTO by paying the required fee and clearing the test for the same.
When will the Learner’s Licence (LL) be delivered by the Gandhinagar RTO?
The LL will be delivered to the applicant on the same day when the knowledge test is held. As for the Driving Licence (DL), the document will be mailed to the registered mailing address, while the IDP or the international driving licence is delivered in person.
Do I have to pay extra to get a registration number of my choice?
Yes, you have to pay the prescribed fees after acquiring your choice of registration number through the process of a public auction. You can visit the Gujarat transport web portal to select the registration number of your choice.
Is the vehicle required to be at the RTO issuing the Fitness Certificate (FC)?
Yes, the vehicle is required to inspect and then issue the FC is deemed fit by the RTO inspector. If the vehicle is found to be fit, then the FC is given for a period of 2 years.
Where should the vehicle’s registration be renewed?
The renewal of the RC should be obtained at the RTO of the city or district of the state in which you are driving the vehicle or resident.
Can I convert my diesel-powered car to a petrol-powered car?
No, you cannot convert a diesel vehicle to a petrol-powered vehicle in India.
Can I replace the engine of my car?
In case of a change to a different fuel type such as CNG/LPG/battery power/solar power, you are permitted to alter the same. Also, in case the engine is beyond repair and needs to be replaced, you can replace the engine of the same make and type as the original engine.
