Maharashtra: RTOs to Soon Become Completely Paperless – August 24, 2020
Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) in Maharashtra will soon become completely paperless thanks to the introduction of e-signatures. With such a move, the processes for applying for a new driving license, renewing a driving license, registering a vehicle, etc. will become much easier. After the switch to e-signatures is made, those who want to apply for such documents can do so online. They will not be required to visit the RTOs, carry documents, and stand in a queue. Documentation and authentication can be done online and they will be required to visit the RTOs for the driving tests. This e-signature model has been in the works for a while. Now, the state government has approved it. The trials for it are in the last stage. The functioning will likely involve the usage of the Aadhaar card and a One-time Password-based (OTP) process.
