What happens if I fail the Learner’s Licence test?

You can reappear for the Learner’s Licence test on the next day itself. Pay the prescribed fees and you can retake the test.

Is it mandatory to apply for a driving licence through the Motor Driving School?

It is not compulsory to obtain a DL from a Motor Driving School; however, for a driving licence to drive a commercial or transport vehicle, you need to obtain Form 5 from the school to process the application.

What precautions should be taken by a Learner’s Licence holder?

A Learner’s Licence holder must be trained under the supervision of a permanent Driving Licence (DL) holder. The vehicle driven by the LL holder should bear the ‘L’ symbol in red colour that should be visible from a distance. Apart from learning to drive the vehicle, the LL holder should understand road signs or symbols, the vehicle’s mechanism, etc. Also, if the LL holder is learning to ride a two-wheeler, then only the instructor can be a pillion.

What is a preliminary Learner’s Licence test?

The RTO will conduct a written or online test and questions will be of multiple choice. For those who are not comfortable with written or online tests, then oral tests will be conducted.

For new driving licences, you need to obtain the Learner’s Licence (LL) and those who have held LL for 30 days can apply for the DL. The application should be done via the Parivahan web portal. Once the time slot is scheduled, you should bring a vehicle of the class mentioned on the application to appear for the DL test. Once the Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) is satisfied with your driving skills, the RTO will issue the permanent DL.

When will the RTO issue the DL once I have passed the driving test?

Once the RTO finds your driving skills as per the prescribed norms, the permanent driving licence will be issued on the same day.

What is the procedure to obtain a duplicate Driving Licence (DL)?

The applicant should file a First Information Report (FIR) for the loss of the DL. Along with the FIR, applicants can obtain a duplicate driving licence initiated through the Parivahan web portal.
