Below are some of the festivals and important dates which Delhi celebrates with great pomp and gusto:

  • Mahavir Jayanti: The day celebrates the birth of Lord Mahavir and is an important day of followers of Jainism. Procession with the idol of Lord Mahavir is carried out known as rath yatra. Jains engage in charitable work, offer prayers, pujas and vratas.

  • Independence Day: The day when India got its independence from the British rule, Delhi transforms on this day to celebrate the country’s freedom. The national parade is a sight to behold with the army showcasing its might, and states of the country showcase their culture and traditions.

  • Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti: To mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, India celebrates Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti on the 2nd of October every year. It is one of the three national holidays celebrated in India.
