With a culturally diverse society, India celebrates several holidays which are unique to religious and linguistic demographics. Government Holidays:

The Indian central and state governments issue a list of Indian holidays every year, which is observed in the respective government offices. The holiday list is primarily divided into types of government holidays:

Holidays such as Republic Day, Independence Day, Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti, etc. are observed as government holidays.

Sikh Festival Holidays:

Sikhs across India and the world celebrate several religious festivals and key historical events. Celebrations take place mostly in northern India and in other countries including the UK and Canada, commemorating the birth or martyrdom of a Guru. The festivals are marked with the reading of the Guru Granth Sahib, prayer, fairs, etc.

Christian Holidays:

Christian holidays are important events for Christians reflecting upon the history and traditions of the church. Followers of Christ mark Christian festivals with praise and worship, fellowship and gorge on delicious food. Some of the most important Christian holidays are Christmas and Easter.

Islamic Holidays:

Muslims across the world observe two important and official Islamic holidays, Eid-Al-Fitr and Eid-Al-Adha occurring on dates in the lunar Islamic calendar. While Eid-Al-Fitr is celebrated at the end of Ramadan month, Eid-Al-Adha is celebrated with prayers on the morning of 1st day of the month of Shawwal.
