Suzuki is working on a technology that uses hydrogen as a fuel for conventional internal combustion engines.
With all major two-wheeler brands focusing on reducing their carbon emissions and shifting to non-ICE products, we will be saying an array of new concepts and ideas at the upcoming 2023 Japan Mobility Show (formerly known as the Tokyo Motor Show). Japanese giant Suzuki has confirmed that it will be showcasing the Burgman Hydrogen and the electric Burgman scooter at the show. Suzuki has been at the forefront of employing hydrogen-powered two-wheelers and had first shown a concept at the 2011 EICMA show in Milan. Later in 2017, it had donated the Burgman Hydrogen Fuel Cell scooters to the London police for trials. But this technology never went into series production.

However, the new Suzuki Burgman Hydrogen scooter which will be showcased doesn’t employ the traditional fuel cell technology as we have seen in the past. Instead, the new Suzuki scooter uses hydrogen as a fuel to power its internal combustion engine. Suzuki has added that the scooter displayed at the show will be a concept and they are still studying and developing the technology.
Apart from the Burgman Hydrogen concept, the Suzuki stall will also display the e-Burgman. The Suzuki Burgman electric has been spotted testing on Indian roads for the past few years and we think it could make its India debut in 2024. The Suzuki e-Burgman will employ swappable battery technology and has a claimed range of 44 km (at 60 kmph) which is very poor when compared to rivals such as the Bajaj Chetak, TVS iQube and the Ola S1 Air. However, Suzuki claims that these numbers will improve in the final production version. The 2023 Japan Mobility Show will be held between October 26 to November 5.
