Tuono will be the naked version of the recently launched Aprilia RS457
Aprilia recently introduced the RS457 sportbike at India Bike Week 2023. Speculation suggests the Italian manufacturer might extend its lineup with a street naked version of the RS, potentially named Tuono 457.
Manufacturers commonly use new platforms to create derivative models. Aprilia has success with this strategy. It includes the RSV4 superbike and Tuono V4 supernaked, as well as the RS 660 sportbike, which spawned the Tuono 660 street naked and Tuareg 660 adventure bike. This is done to optimise development costs across various models sharing the same chassis and engine. This can be seen with Yamaha R15 and MT15 platform as well as KTM with their multiple bikes from the same platform a closer to home example is the 390 family. Drawing speculation on these lines we can play safe bet that there might be a street naked motorcycle, Tuono 457 and even an adventure version on this platform.
The launch price of the RS457 at ₹ 4.1 lakh (ex-showroom) was slightly higher than anticipated, making the introduction of a Tuono 457 a strategic move to broaden the entry threshold to Aprilia's motorcycle lineup in India.
Compared with overseas markets, where the Tuono variants are more affordable than their fully faired counterparts, the introduction of a Tuono 457 could offer Indian riders a more accessible option. If realised, the Tuono 457 is expected to feature more upright ergonomics than the RS. This will be possible by incorporating a flatter handlebar and slightly adjusted footpegs.. The 457 cc parallel-twin engine is likely to remain largely unchanged, delivering a power output of 48 bhp.
If the Tuono 457 project materialises, it is anticipated to be manufactured alongside the RS457 at Aprilia's Baramati plant in India. The pricing is expected to position the Tuono 457 just under the ₹ 4 lakh mark, offering enthusiasts an option in the middleweight motorcycle segment.
