BMW India has cumulatively managed to deliver a total of 10,556 cars in India from January to September 2024. Thus, it marked an astonishing 10 per cent year-to-date growth, which is the highest sales growth in the country at all times. On the contrary, Mercedes-Benz has already retailed 9,262 units by Q2 2024-25, while Audi has retailed 7,027 units in the same period. We await for these company's Q3 results, and that will give us a good perspective to who how far BMW India is in comparison.
However, in the first nine months of 2024, a total of 10,056 BMW units were delivered, followed by 500 MINI units. Key models that spearheaded these sales charges include the newly introduced BMW 7 Series Long Wheelbase, the BMW 3 Series Long Wheelbase, and the BMW X1. The newly launched BMW 5 Series has already garnered sales of over 300 units with a strong order bank of over 600 units.
However, it was BMW's range of electric vehicles which registered phenomenal growth toppling luxury OEMs like Mercedes-Benz, who have been dominating this segment for years now. A total of 725 electric BMW and MINI cars were delivered in the third quarter of 2024-25, amongst which BMW’s most expensive EV offering, the i7, was the largest-selling EV in its portfolio. Moreover, last month also, BMW surpassed the 2,000 sales milestone with its EV portfolio, making it the first luxury car manufacturer in the country to achieve this status. The BMW iX, on the other hand, is the most popular luxury EV in India with over 1,000 units sold to date.
Furthermore, BMW revealed that 17 per cent of its total sales came from its luxury-class vehicles. In this segment, the BMW X7 led the charge, and it was the most sold beemer last month. But more than that, the likes of the BMW 3 series and the entry-level X1 SUV made up 55 per cent of BMW sales – sealing the brand’s position at the top of all luxury car manufacturers in India.
“BMW Group India is changing the game with its long wheelbase product portfolio and a strong electric mobility offensive. Key models like the BMW 7 Series Long Wheelbase, BMW 3 Series Long Wheelbase, and BMW X1 are leading in their segment and demand for the new BMW 5 Series Long Wheelbase is overwhelming,” concluded Vikram Pawah, President and CEO, of BMW Group.
