The fourth quarter was particularly strong, with BMW clocking its highest-ever Q4 performance (4,958 units, up 15 per cent).
BMW Group India has achieved a milestone in 2024 by delivering its best-ever annual car and motorcycle sales. The company reported a robust 11 per cent growth, delivering 15,721 cars (BMW and MINI) and 8,301 motorcycles (BMW Motorrad) between January and December. BMW brand sales totalled 15,012 units, while MINI contributed 709 units to the tally. The fourth quarter was particularly strong, with BMW clocking its highest-ever Q4 performance (4,958 units, up 15 per cent) and December sales (2,244 units, up 17 per cent). Notably, BMW’s flagship Luxury Class range saw unprecedented success, with 2,507 units sold (up 8 per cent).
As BMW celebrated its record-breaking year, rival Mercedes-Benz India had an even better year, while Audi India had a contrasting performance. Although Mercedes-Benz India will announce its annual sales report on January 9, the German carmaker is poised to close 2024 with around 20,000 units sold, having reported 14,379 deliveries between January and September, a 13 per cent growth year on year. Audi India, on the other hand, delivered 5,816 units in 2024. Although the brand posted growth, its sales remain significantly behind those of BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
Within the Luxury Class, the BMW X7 remained a favourite, delivering 1,570 units (+4 per cent) and maintaining its status as the best-selling model in the segment. Additionally, the BMW 7 Series achieved 865 deliveries (+15 per cent), reinforcing its position as the pinnacle of luxury in its category.
BMW Group India solidified its leadership in the luxury electric vehicle (EV) segment for the third consecutive year. The company delivered 1,249 fully electric cars in 2024, with the BMW i7 leading its class (384 units sold). BMW has also crossed the 3,000-unit mark for cumulative EV deliveries, becoming the first luxury car manufacturer in India to achieve this milestone.
Popular EV models like the BMW iX (over 1,100 units sold to date) and the newly introduced BMW i5 and MINI Countryman Electric have bolstered the brand’s EV portfolio. The group offers six electric cars and two electric scooters in India, a range unmatched in the luxury segment.
BMW’s Sports Activity Vehicles (SAVs) remained the backbone of its success, accounting for 56 per cent of sales with 8,351 units, a 16 per cent growth. The BMW X1 was the most popular SAV, contributing over 20 per cent of total sales and leading the premium compact SAV segment. Meanwhile, the BMW X5 registered its highest-ever annual sales at 2,056 units (+89 per cent).
Sedans also performed exceptionally well, with the BMW 3 Series and the all-new BMW 5 Series Long Wheelbase driving demand. The BMW 3 Series was the highest-selling sedan, claiming a 20 per cent share in sales, while the new 5 Series secured over 1,000 deliveries in less than six months post-launch.
BMW M, the brand’s high-performance division, had a record-breaking year with 875 units delivered across eight new launches. The BMW M340i emerged as the best-selling M model, with cumulative sales crossing 1,000 units. MINI also saw growth, with its 3-Door Cooper S model achieving a record 250 units (+77 per cent).
