New design registration records published by the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks in India within the past week show that BMW India is working towards launching its iX3 SUV here. As previously reported, the India launch is expected in early 2027, shortly after the long wheelbase version debuts in China.
The BMW iX3 will be India’s first electric Neue Klasse model when it is formally launched. It is likely to be assembled at BMW Group’s Chennai manufacturing facility, with the company also looking to reduce costs by sourcing key components locally.

Unveiled in January this year, the iX3 is BMW’s first production model built on the Neue Klasse architecture, which covers vehicle design and technology as well as manufacturing processes optimised for efficiency and cost reduction. A Panoramic iDrive screen shows essential information across the base of the windshield, and a new voice assistant (in supported countries) supports natural-language interaction and can make proactive suggestions.
