With the 2026 Independence Day on the horizon, here’s what you can expect from Mahindra
The Indian Independence Day has been a staple event in the automotive calendar not just to celebrate India’s independence but also for Mahindra to showcase its new cars, technologies, and more. Over the years, the automaker has revealed its biggest launches of the year on August 15, with most offerings such as the Thar, XUV700, Thar Roxx, and more, turning out to be blockbusters. Last year, Mahindra unveiled the Vision concept range as well as the new Nu_IQ platform, which will go on to spawn a host of new SUVs - ICE and electric. With the 2026 Independence Day on the horizon, here’s what you can expect from the automaker.

Mahindra has teased the upcoming BE 6 Sporteq variant, set for debut on August 15. The new special edition version is expected to arrive with a host of upgrades, including a triple-screen setup inside the cabin, borrowed from the XEV 9e. The teaser further hints at a redesigned dashboard that removes the divider between the front seats. This should make the centre console more usable, opening more room in the cabin.
We also expect to see new upholstery, and a lighter cabin colour among other updates. Powertrain options will remain the same with the 59 kWh and 79 kWh battery packs set to continue promising a claimed range of 557 km and 683 km (MIDC) respectively. Expect the Mahindra BE 6 Sporteq Edition to command a marginal premium over the standard model.

Mahindra revealed its Global Pik Up Concept as early as the 2023 Independence Day but the offering is expected to finally get a closer to production version on August 15 this year. The upcoming Global Pik Up is expected to arrive as single-cab and double-cab versions, along with utilitarian and lifestyle options. While India has a smaller market for lifestyle pick-ups, the markets overseas have a strong acceptance for such models, especially Australia and South Africa, where the manufacturer now has a strong base.
Based on the Scorpio-N, the upcoming Global Pik Up is expected to retain most of the elements from the SUV, including the ladder-frame chassis, 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and 2.2-litre mHawk turbocharged diesel engine. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and automatic with power goes to the rear wheels or all four wheels with 4x4 available. The Global Pik Up will swap the Scorpio-N’s third row for a flat-bed instead. More details on the upcoming offering should be available on the eve of independence day, which will take on the Toyota Hilux when it hits the market.

The Mahindra Vision S concept was unveiled during the last independence day, and previewed a subcompact SUV from the automaker. The production version is expected to hit the market in 2027, and the manufacturer could showcase a near-production prototype, keeping the excitement alive. The Vision S previewed a boxy and rugged offering, which will bridge the gap between the XUV 3XO and Scorpio-N in the brand’s lineup. It will be based on the all-new Nu_IQ architecture, which has been designed to accommodate petrol, diesel, electric, and hybrid powertrain options. Mahindra is expected to go big on tech with the Vision S incorporating everything from six airbags to Level 2 ADAS, and more, while we expect to see the 1.2-litre turbo petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine options on the SUV. The upcoming Vision S The tall stance should make it a roomy SUV, and more premium than the Bolero Neo subcompact SUV.
