The new Vida scooter will come with a sub-₹1 lakh pricing and could go on sale by August, 2026.
The Vida VX2 has been a runaway success for the brand. The two key reasons for this have been the pricing and the improvements made on the scooter. The Vida VX2 remains the only electric scooter to offer removable battery technology, which is a boon when you don’t have charging access at your residence or workspace. While Hero MotoCorp has got the pricing very aggressive with Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model as the scooter is priced at just ₹44,990 (ex-showroom), the company feels there is space for more as without BaaS, the pricing for the VX2 Go variant is ₹77,590 (ex-showroom).
According to reports, Hero is planning to expand the Vida portfolio by introducing a new low-cost variant of the VX2. The major change in the new VX2 variant will be the fact that it will come with a fixed battery and it could feature a smaller 2.2 kWh battery pack. Both these moves have been strategically chosen to help reduce the cost of the scooter as the company is planning a sub-₹1 lakh (ex-showroom) price point for the new VX2 offering. With a fixed battery pack, the complications of build and reliability comes down massively. Also, Vida engineers can place the battery pack in the footboard thereby freeing up more underseat storage, something the Vida scooters struggle with.
The more affordable Vida VX2 variant will help in expanding sales due to its aggressive pricing. The upcoming Vida scooter can be positioned both as a B2B and a B2C product, something the brand hasn’t experimented with yet as until now it has been a B2C product. The feature list on the scooter could also be reduced as part of a cost-cutting measure.
The new Vida scooter will be an important product as Chetak already introduced the C25 as its low cost offering, whereas Ather will be launching a new scooter on the EL01 platform. TVS on the other hand introduced the Orbiter last year and it has been positioned as a youthful and affordable electric scooter. Hero MotoCorp is also expanding its manufacturing capacity at its facility in Andhra Pradesh as the new Vida scooter will play a key role in justifying this expansion. The Vida VX2 affordable variant could go on sale in August, 2026.
