Google's upcoming budget smartphone, the purported Pixel 9a, has surfaced in leaked renders, showcasing a significant design overhaul and promising features. Notably, the Google Pixel 9 series recently hit the market, and the "affordable" Pixel 9a is likely to launch in early 2025. The most striking change in the Pixel 9a's design, as per the leak, is its camera bar.
According to leaked images from reliable tipster OnLeaks, as spotted by Android Headlines, the camera module appears nearly flush with the device's back, featuring a subtle ring around it, which is a change from this year's Pixel 8a's design.
As with previous A-series releases, the Pixel 9a is anticipated to make its debut at Google I/O in 2025.
Following the Pixel 9's lead, the 9a adopts a similar camera configuration, sporting both ultra-wide and wide lenses. However, budget-conscious buyers should note the presence of somewhat larger bezels, a common trade-off in more affordable devices.
One of the Pixel 9a's standout features is its software. Unlike its Pixel 9 siblings, the 9a is poised to launch with Android 16 pre-installed. This would give budget users immediate access to the latest Android features and improvements. Additionally, Google is expected to continue its commitment to long-term support, offering seven years of software updates for the device.
Under the hood, the Pixel 9a is likely to be powered by the Tensor G4 chip, the same processor found in the main Pixel 9 lineup. However, to maintain a competitive price point, it may use a more cost-effective modem.
While exact specifications remain unconfirmed, industry insiders suggest that the Pixel 9a will share similarities with its predecessor. This could mean a 6.1-inch display, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. The battery capacity might see a slight increase from the previous iteration's 4492mAh.
