Google is rolling out an improved visual search functionality by adding Circle to Search to Chrome and the Google app on iPhones. However, the tech giant is calling it "Search Screen with Google Lens".
Users will find this new search option within the three-dot menu of both apps. The feature supports multiple interaction methods, including drawing, highlighting, and tapping, allowing users to choose their preferred gesture for initiating searches.
"First, if you have an iPhone, you’ll find a new Lens option that lets you select and search what’s on your screen within Chrome or the Google app, using whatever gesture comes naturally — like drawing, highlighting or tapping.
"Whether you’re reading an article, shopping for a product or watching a video, you can use this feature to quickly perform a visual search while browsing, without having to take a screenshot or open a new tab," Jenny Blair, Senior Product Manager, Search and Nick Kim Sexton, Product Manager, Chrome, Google, said in a statement.
Google will also streamline access further by implementing a dedicated Google Lens icon within Chrome's address bar in the coming months.
The global rollout of Search Screen with Google Lens begins this week for both Chrome and the Google app on iOS devices.
Additionally, Google is enhancing Lens with AI Overviews, similar to those currently available in Google Search. The integration of AI Overviews specifically targets object identification queries, aiming to deliver more comprehensive and contextual search results.
