The first electric scooter is likely to be a family-centric offering that could be called the Activa-e.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines at the 64th SIAM Annual Convention, Yogesh Mathur, Director, Sales and Marketing of Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Limited, confirmed that the brand will launch its first electric two-wheeler offering in the country by March 2025. This announcement comes after a few years of delays.
EV sales have peaked and subsidy schemes like FAME-II and EMPS 2024 played a significant role. However, with EV sales picking up and reaching stable grounds, Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister of Road, Transport and Highways, has stated that subsidy benefits will eventually be rolled back.

Honda’s upcoming electric scooter, has been touted, will carry forward the Activa badge. Honda will equip the upcoming electric scooter with swappable battery technology, which it has been testing for a couple of years in the country.
Just like the ICE-powered Activa, the Honda Activa Electric will also be designed keeping in mind the “big Indian family”, therefore we expect it to be quite the spacious affair. The market, though, already has a bunch of options, which include the likes of the Bajaj Chetak, TVS iQube, Ola S1 and Ather Rizta. How will Honda’s upcoming EV fair against this competition? That remains to be seen.
