Images give an idea where Bajaj has cut corners to make the Chetak more afforable
Bajaj Auto is all set to launch a more affordable variant of its popular Chetak electric scooter in May, 2024. Images of the new variant have surfaced online, giving us a glimpse of the changes Bajaj has made to bring down the price.
While the overall design remains similar to the existing models, the new variant gets a refresh with a set of brighter and more cheerful colours. To achieve a lower price point, Bajaj has swapped some features for more cost-effective options.
There's no official information on powertrain modifications, but speculations suggest a slight reduction in performance to potentially increase range. It's unclear if this variant uses a hub motor, and the exact battery size remains unknown. However, it might opt for the same 2.9kWh battery pack as the Chetak Urbane, offering a claimed IDC range of 113 km.
This new Chetak variant ditches the alloy wheels and disc brake seen on the current models in favour of more basic steel wheels and drum brakes. Additionally, a physical key replaces the keyless ignition, and a monochrome LCD display takes the place of the coloured unit. Lockable glove compartments are swapped for open cubbies.
The current Bajaj Chetak comes in two variants - Premium and Urbane. With a price tag of ₹ 1.47 lakh (ex-showroom) for the Premium variant and ₹ 1.23 lakh for the Urbane, we expect this new affordable variant to be priced even lower than the Urbane variant's price.
