Mahindra & Mahindra has showcased its new Global Pik Up concept at the company’s annual event in Cape Town. The concept is based on the Scorpio N SUV and will come with a new-generation ladder frame platform which should make the Global Pik Up concept off-road friendly. Codenamed Z121, the Global Pik Up concept has been designed at the Mahindra India Design Studio (MIDS). The homegrown automaker claims that the pickup concept reflects Mahindra's interpretation of an authentic lifestyle pickup.
Veejay Nakra, President – Automotive Sector, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., said, "The new Global Pik Up marks a significant step in Mahindra's Go-Global Strategy. This robust and Tough vehicle, engineered with cutting-edge Technology, is not only Versatile and Capable but also meets high standards of Safety. On the design front, the images reveal a fairly modified Scorpio N with a cargo bed at the back with the space being used to carry two spare tyres. The rear design is different from that of the conventional Scorpio N SUV, and there are two tow hooks in the back as well as the front. The front fascia is similar to the Scorpio N and gets a snorkel as well as a luggage rack on top with orange inserts all around the body of the Global Pik Up concept. There are unique steps on each side of the concept along with a 5-spoke alloy wheel design.
Furthermore, Mahindra will equip the Global Pik Up concept with goodies such as Level-2 ADAS, Trailer Sway Mitigation, All-Around Airbag Protection, Drowsy Driver Detection, 5G Connectivity, and a whole lot more. Mahindra also promises that the Global Pik Up concept will come with drive modes, semi-automatic parking, sunroof and an immersive audio experience. The company also claims that the Global Pik Up concept will get a 5-star safety rating along with Mahindra's intelligent 4Xplore four-wheel-drive system.
Mahindra has designed the Global Pik Up concept as an international product, and has also mentioned a range of new products in mind for the near future. The initial launch will take place in existing markets such as South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and parts of the Middle East and African continent. Post the launch in already existing markets, the Global Pik Up concept will make its way to ASEAN markets like Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. It is expected that Mahindra will bring the Global Pik Up concept to India sometime in the near future, as well.
