Mahindra usually holds huge launch events on Independence Day, and this year’s edition could be shaping up to be a big one. At least one or two of last year’s Vision series concepts, based on the company’s adaptable Nu_IQ platform, are looking ready for their official debuts. The latest filing unearthed in the Government of India’s patent and design registration database points to the Vision X, a sporty crossover-style sub-4m compact SUV.
The timing indicates that a production-ready model could be showcased on August 15. At the time of the concept unveiling, Mahindra said its Nu_IQ products would be ready to launch starting in 2027. The Vision X is likely to come to market as part of Mahindra’s XUV, XEV, or BE series, though the former is most likely based on the fact that it sports the same emblem that the company uses for all models except the "born electric" range.

Mahindra described the design of the Vision X concept as "sculptural athleticism”. It has a wide, planted stance with smooth lines and creases that catch the light at any angle. The concept vehicle was designed with the biggest wheels in its segment, an LED lightbar across the rear, X-patterned fins on the front grille, flush door handles, and cameras on stalks rather than traditional side-view mirrors. Interior materials were also carefully considered, to create a “fighterplane-like” cockpit with expansive space, a floating infotainment screen integrated with the driver’s digital display, and additional small screens for climate control.
While the final production car could be very similar in design, several of the concept’s features are likely to be toned down, depending on the price point Mahindra targets. All four Vision concepts were designed by Mahindra India Design Studio (MIDS) in Mumbai along with the Mahindra Advanced Design Europe (MADE) facility in the UK.

Specifications and configurations are not known yet. Cars based on the Nu_IQ platform are likely to be offered with petrol, diesel, electric, and hybrid powertrains. The architecture allows for front-wheel-drive as well as all-wheel-drive options, plus left- and right-hand-drive configurations for exports in the future, as part of the company's international expansion plan.
