This could be because of the upcoming MG Hector Hawk EV, which will directly compete with this electric SUV.
The Mahindra XEV 9S is now available with captain seats in its second row. The XEV 9S has been immensely popular of late, and the upcoming rival from MG could have motivated Mahindra to launch more seating options on this vehicle.
While sharing its core interior layout with the XEV 9e, the XEV 9S sets itself apart with a three-row seating configuration. The dashboard features a triple-screen setup incorporating a central touchscreen, a fully digital instrument cluster, and an independent display for the front passenger. The all-black interior is accented with silver side stitching and silver inserts aligned with occupant shoulder areas. Cargo capacity stands at 527 litres in the boot alongside a segment-leading 150-litre front trunk.
The cabin incorporates a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system with Dolby Atmos, a power-adjustable driver's seat with memory settings, toggle-style power window switches, a two-spoke steering wheel, and sliding second-row seats. Further comfort updates include Powered Boss mode, reclining and sliding ventilated second-row seats, and a digital key with NFC functionality.
Additional tech and convenience equipment includes the Secure360 Pro system with live viewing, recording, and real-time communication capabilities, alongside ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, an electric parking brake, a panoramic sunroof, remote parking assist, and a powered tailgate. Safety equipment encompasses Level 2 ADAS, seven airbags, hill hold assist, an electronic stability program, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera system.

The Mahindra XEV 9S is available with three battery options, all delivering an identical torque rating of 380 Nm. The entry-level 59 kWh battery pairs with a 170 kW (228 bhp) electric motor, the mid-spec 70 kWh pack joins a 180 kW (241 bhp) motor, and the range-topping 79 kWh battery uses a 210 kW (282 bhp) motor. The 79 kWh variant offers a claimed real-world driving range of 500 km on a full charge. Performance figures include a top speed of 202 km/h and a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of 7.0 seconds, making it the fastest seven-seat SUV in its segment.
