Motorola has launched its new flagship, the Edge 50 Ultra, in India. Officially priced at Rs. 59,999, the company has teased launch offers that could bring the cost down to Rs. 49,999. It will be positioned above the Motorola Edge 50 Pro and Edge 50 Fusion, with a newer SoC, improved cameras, and new generative AI features. There’s only one configuration, with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Sales begin on June 24 on the company’s own website and Flipkart, and at authorised retail outlets.
Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoC, Motorola says the Edge 50 Ultra uses AI to improve camera performance and personalisation. Users can generate unique images to use as wallpapers based on any pattern captured by the device’s cameras.
You get a 4500mAh battery that can be charged at up to 125W with the included wired charger, and Motorola says you can get up to 12 hours of battery life in just five minutes if the battery is very low. There’s also up to 50W wireless charging with a proprietary Moto TurboPower charging stand (sold separately) and 10W reverse charging for your accessories.
The 50-megapixel primary rear camera is joined by a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera that can also take macros, and a 64-megapixel telephoto camera with 3X optical zoom. There’s a laser Time-of-Flight autofocus system, and optical image stabilisation for the primary and telephoto cameras. Video recording goes up to 4K 60fps or 4K HDR10+ 30fps. Google Lens is integrated for AI-powered object recognition. The phone is certified by Pantone for colour and skin tone reproduction. There’s also a 50-megapixel front camera for selfies.
The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra also boasts of a 6.7-inch 1220x2712-pixel pOLED display, which supports HDR10+ content and has a 144Hz peak refresh rate. There are also stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos enhancement. This phone supports two physical nano-SIMs, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and NFC. There’s a USB Type-C 3.1 Gen2 port.
Design is also a selling point for this phone, with a curved-edge screen and 93.5 percent screen-to-body ratio. This phone is 8.59mm thin and weighs 197g. It has an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. There’s curved Corning Gorilla Glass Victus on the front, with a fingerprint-resistant coating. The frame is made of aluminium with a sandblasted finish. You have a choice of Pantone Peach Fuzz and Forest Grey finishes with vegan leather rear panels, and a Nordic Wood option made of real wood.
Motorola’s Smart Connect features let you control your phone and run its apps on a PC or laptop, copy and paste information from one device to another, and use the phone’s high-quality cameras as a webcam.
