Hyundai Motor India has announced that it will be launching the all-new Verna compact sedan in India on March 21, 2023. The company has already kick-started bookings for the sedan in the country. Given that the compact sedan segment did not see much growth till the arrival of the VW Virtus and the Skoda Slavia last year, Hyundai now wants to up the ante with the new-gen Verna. The Verna has been one of the best sellers in this segment, and the company wants to continue this streak with the new-gen model.
As far as looks go, we do not get to see much of the car, but the teaser images released by the company show gives us an idea as to how the car looks. The Sensual Sportiness design language now makes its way to the Verna as well and that's why you see the wide front grille and the dual-layer headlamp and the nice touch added by the single LED DRL which is placed below the bonnet. The rear too sees use of LEDs which run the width of the car adding a new dimension to the Verna. The overall silhouette is still very much sedan like, but the sloping roofline and the sharp creases on the side, add a bit of muscle to the Verna.
Under the hood, the Verna will come only with a petrol motor. There'll be a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine and a turbocharged unit as well. With the turbocharged unit, this generation of the Verna will be the most powerful ever. Expect the 1.5-litre turbo petrol motor to churn out close to 158 bhp which is about 10 bhp more than both the Virtus and the Slavia.
Expect Hyundai to pack the Verna to the gills with features and this includes connectivity and safety as well. Our dealer sources have told us that ADAS is likely to be made available in the top-end variant of the car, so it will be the first compact sedan in the country to be made available with this technology.
