The Dio 125 is the most premium 125 cc scooter from Honda.
Honda extended its scooter portfolio in India by launching the new Dio 125. It’s its third scooter in the 125cc segment and also its most premium offering yet. The Honda Dio 125 standard variant is priced at Rs. 83,400, and the Smart variant retails for Rs. 91,300 (both prices are ex-showroom, Delhi). As expected, the styling of the Dio 125 is similar to that of the Dio 110, and it carries forward the angular design language.
The sharp panels and the sporty styling are targeted at attracting youngsters, and the only visual distinction between the two siblings is the different exhaust muffler. It also sports a fully digital LCD instrument console that displays details such as distance to empty, real-time fuel efficiency, and overall fuel consumption apart from your regular details. There’s also an idling stop system (start/stop system) to improve fuel efficiency and a side-stand engine cutoff for added safety.
The Dio 125 Smart variant gets the following extra features with a smart key:
Smart Features | Function |
Smart Find | You can locate the scooter in a crowded parking lot by pressing the answer back button and the indicators on the scooter will start blinking. |
Smart Unlock | It allows the rider to lock and unlock the scooter without using a physical key and if there is no activity for 20 seconds after activation, it automatically locks the scooter again. |
Smart Start | At close proximity, the rider can start the scooter by rotating the knob on the apron or even unlocking the seat or fuel cap without using the key. |
Smart Safe | To prevent theft, the scooter will not start unless and until the smart key and the ECU ID match with each other. |
On the mechanical front, the Dio 125 is powered by the same engine as seen on the Honda Activa 125. However the Dio’s power rating is 8.16BHP as opposed to the Activa’s 8.19 bhp, but torque output is similar at 10.4 Nm. The Dio 125 is 6 kg lighter than the Activa 125 at 104 kg and it should offer peppy performance. The weight difference can be credited to the plastic panels, unlike the metal body of its sibling. Suspension duties are handled by a telescopic fork and a mono-shock, while a disc brake comes as a standard fitment on the Dio 125. Honda also offers a 10-year warranty on the Dio 125 (3 years standard, 7 years is optional).
With the new Dio 125, Honda has tapped into one of its most popular brands and is targeting the sporty 125 cc scooter segment. Pricing for the scooter is competitive, styling is sporty and the 125 cc engine offers a good combination of performance and frugality. But the task on its hand is a tough one as it will rival the likes of the TVS NTorq 125, Suzuki Avenis, and the Yamaha RayZR 125.
