The fourth-generation Swift made its global debut at the Japan Mobility Show 2023.
Maruti Suzuki is set to launch the fourth-generation Swift in India in May, according to sources. The fourth-gen Swift was revealed globally at the Japan Mobility Show 2023 and has been spotted testing in India already.
The new Swift has more of an evolutionary than a revolutionary design language. It has a hexagonal grille, L-shaped LED DRLs, projector LED headlamps and a clamshell-like bonnet. Test mules of the fourth-gen Swift spotted in India show that the Maruti Suzuki hatchback might not get ADAS in India, while it is available in the international-spec model does. Furthermore, the new Swift's rear door handles have moved down to the door from the C pillar and it also gets a new design for the alloy wheels.
Inside, the new Swift gets a layered dashboard design with the large, 9-inch infotainment touchscreen taking centre stage. It gets similar switchgear for the HVAC controls and the steering wheel as the new Maruti Suzuki models like the Baleno, Fronx and Grand Vitara. The new Swift also gets a small MID in the instrument cluster and could also get a head-up display.
Under the hood, the fourth-generation Swift gets a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine producing 80 bhp and 108 Nm. While the international-spec model gets a mild-hybrid assist that provides a boost of 3 bhp and 60 Nm, reports suggest it may not be available on the India-spec model. The international-spec Swift gets a CVT alongside the 5-speed manual gearbox, but the India-spec model could come with a 5-speed AMT instead of the CVT.
Expect the fourth-generation model to be priced at a slight premium over the outgoing Swift which retails for ₹5.99 - 8.89 lakh. Once launched, the new Swift will rival the likes of the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios (₹5.92 - 8.23 lakh) and Tata Tiago (₹5.65 - 8.90 lakh). All prices ex-showroom, India.
