Toyota could be preparing to soon launch the latest iteration of its iconic lifestyle pickup truck in India.
The next-generation Toyota Hilux has been spotted completely undisguised in Delhi's Aerocity, indicating that the manufacturer could be preparing to introduce the all-new pickup truck to the Indian market soon.
This sighting marks the first time the updated model has been seen on Indian roads, a move that could strengthen the brand's presence in this niche utility vehicle segment.
Toyota officially unveiled the ninth-generation pickup truck in Bangkok in November 2025, introducing one of the most comprehensive updates in the nameplate's 50-year history. The new model embraces a multi-pathway approach toward carbon neutrality by offering diesel, hybrid, battery-electric, and eventually hydrogen fuel-cell options.
The new Hilux adopts a contemporary design language featuring a bolder, more upright stance and enhanced aerodynamics. The front fascia is defined by slim horizontal LED headlamps connected by a central panel with prominent Toyota lettering, with the electric variant receiving a closed-off grille.
Retaining a Double Cab body style, the utility vehicle gains redesigned side steps and an integrated rear deck step for easier cargo bed access. Furthermore, electric power steering has been introduced in several markets to improve low-speed manoeuvrability and reduce steering kickback during off-road driving.
Inside, the cabin receives a major overhaul inspired by the latest Land Cruiser range, featuring a cleaner dashboard layout, higher-quality materials, and an emphasis on digital technology. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is paired with a central touchscreen infotainment system of the same size. The premium package also includes wireless smartphone charging, multiple USB ports, and connected vehicle features.

Globally, the biggest development is the introduction of the Hilux BEV, the brand's first fully electric pickup truck. Equipped with a 59.2 kWh battery pack and dual electric motors, the electric model offers permanent all-wheel drive, a payload capacity of around 715 kg, and a towing capability of roughly 1,600 kg.
However, for the Indian market, the 48V mild-hybrid diesel version is the more likely candidate. This setup pairs the proven 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine with a compact hybrid system designed to enhance refinement, throttle response, and fuel efficiency. The diesel engine develops 201 bhp of power and 500 Nm of peak torque, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
While an official Indian launch timeline is yet to be confirmed, the testing activities in Delhi suggest that local evaluation is well underway.
