MG Motor UK has unveiled the second generation of the HS SUV at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2024. The MG HS SUV gets plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and petrol powertrains, new features and a new design.
The HS PHEV gets a 141 bhp, 1.5-litre petrol engine mated to a 206 bhp electric motor. The motor draws power from a 24.7 kWh battery and MG claims an electric-only range of up to 121 km. The MG HS petrol gets a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with 168 bhp and 275 Nm. It comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox but can also be equipped with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic as well. MG claims the PHEV can do the 0-100 kmph run in 6.8 seconds, while the petrol takes 9.4 seconds.

The second-gen HS gets a new grille that is wider than before, flanked by two LED headlamps. Overall, the new HS has a more mature design language and gets new 10-spoke, 19-inch alloy wheels. The second-gen HS measures 4655 mm (4670 mm for PHEV) in length, 1890 mm in width and has a 2765 mm long wheelbase. MG claims the HS’ length and wheelbase have increased by 45 mm, while the width has increased by 18 mm. However, the height has been reduced by 30 mm.
Inside, the new MG SUV gets two 12.3-inch displays for the infotainment and digital cluster. The former gets Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Amazon Music support. The latter has Light and Dark themes as well as three display modes – Map, Digital and ADAS. Other features in the new MG HS include a 360-degree camera, a wireless smartphone charger, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat, a powered tailgate, an 8-speaker audio system as well as vehicle-to-load functionality of the PHEV.

The HS is available in five colour options – White Pearl, Black Pearl, Sterling Silver Metallic, Hampstead Grey Metallic and Dynamic Red. The cabin is available in either an all-black or a tan theme.
Prices for the new HS in the UK start at GBP 24,995 (roughly ₹27.10 lakh). Deliveries for the petrol variants will begin at the end of July, while PHEV will be available from September. MG Motor India announced that it is readying multiple new car and SUV launches in India, and the HS could be a part of this onslaught. If launched, expect the HS to be positioned between the Hector and Gloster, and rival the likes of the Volkswagen Tiguan, Hyundai Tucson and Jeep Compass.
