The Hyper Force concept is the only electric sports car Nissan unveiled at the motor show. While the Japanese manufacturer hasn’t claimed outright that this will be a successor to the venerable GT-R, it has dropped certain clues that it will be a successor to the current generation GT-R. First of these clues is the silhouette and the quad-round tail lights that are reminiscent of a few of the previous generations of Nissan’s flagship sports car. Next would be the pixelated red and white blocks that look eerily similar to the ‘GT-R’ logo. And finally, the two driving modes the Hyper Force gets – R (racing) and GT (grand touring).
The design of the Hyper Force concept is pretty radical. It features canards, flip-up elements on the front fenders and a massive rear wing and they also get active aero functionality. Other aero elements include a double-deck diffuser and lightweight, forged carbon alloy wheels that help in brake cooling as well.
While Nissan hasn’t divulged much information about the Hyper Force concept, it did reveal the all-electric sports car will develop 1,341 bhp. Nissan also said this power is delivered to all four wheels via the e-4ORCE all-wheel drive system, and along with its lightweight carbon body helps improve handling.
Inside, the Hyper Force concept has seating for two passengers and abounds with LED panels mimicking a cyberpunk-style video game. Nissan Chief Executive Officer Makoto Uchida said, “This car would be a perfect fit for those who love driving – either in the real or virtual world”. The Hyper Force concept is also equipped with autonomous driving features assisted by LiDar (Light Detection and Ranging) and an array of sensors tuned for sports driving.
The other non-SUV concept at Nissan’s stall at the Tokyo Motor Show was the Hyper Tourer MPV concept. This radical concept, first revealed earlier this month, comes with Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) functionality, along with a high-capacity battery, that can help supply power to buildings, other vehicles and appliances as well.
The Hyper Tourer is a typical MPV with big proportions and smooth, flowing lines. It has a steeply raked windshield and the blacked-out top part makes it seem like a single, unbroken greenhouse unit.
Inside, the Hyper Tourer has seating for four passengers and the front row can swivel 360 degrees if the passengers want to face each other. Rear passengers also have the option to use wearables to view and operate the navigation. Nissan says the Hyper Tourer is a fully autonomous electric vehicle and Uchida said “It is a car for those who appreciate comfort and the finer things in life”.
Nissan also showcased a rugged, off-road-oriented Hyper Adventure SUV concept at the motor show. The Hyper Adventure SUV also comes with V2X functionality, with its large capacity battery acting as a power source. Like other concepts here, Nissan hasn’t given much information about the powertrain of the concept SUV, it did mention that it will also get the e-4ORCE all-wheel drive system to tackle rough terrains. Like the Hyper Tourer, the Hyper Adventure was also first revealed earlier this month.
The Hyper Adventure SUV gets crampons (snow traction gear) on the front and rear bumpers to help provide better grip in snowy areas. Inside, the most interesting bit is the swivelling rear bench that can rotate 180 degrees. It also comes with automatically extending steps that can be used while camping. Nissan says there’s enough cargo space in the Hyper Adventure to accommodate tents, skis or even a kayak.
The second SUV by Nissan at the Tokyo Motor Show 2023 was the Hyper Punk Concept. Nissan revealed this concept EV in the run-up to the motor show last week. Like the other Hyper concept cars here, the Hyper Punk also gets V2X functionality, allowing its intended customer base – content creators, artists, influencers and those who value innovation – can run and charge their devices at any time.
The interior of the Hyper Punk concept takes inspiration from the Japanese art of Origami and according to Nissan, this creates “an interior space where digital and art are fused together.” Furthermore, Nissan says the concept can identify the driver’s mood and automatically set the right music and lighting. The Japanese carmaker also claims that the Hyper Punk has a highly stable body and its 23-inch wheels help make it versatile enough to be used on- & off-the road.
The first of the five concepts to be revealed before the Tokyo Motor Show was the Hyper Urban Concept. The crossover concept represents Nissan’s future design and technological capabilities with its electric offerings. It gets front and rear scissor doors that Nissan claims help provide a “sense of openness and character”. The front seats can collapse completely and help provide a lounge-like experience to the passengers in the rear seats.
