Roadster motorcycles embody the purest form of two-wheeled freedom. These naked street machines offer riders an unadulterated connection to the road. With their upright riding position, soulful engines, and nimble handling, roadsters are all about a thrilling experience. In this article, we'll explore the top 5 roadster motorcycles turning heads and setting trends in the current market.
The newly launched Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 is hands down one of the funkiest-looking motorcycles to have come out of the British bikemaker’s stable. Although based on the same Sherpa 450 platform as the Himalayan 450, the new Guerrilla 450 is shorter, lighter and with a steeper rake angle, promising to be an agile and lively ride. Launched with an introductory price starting from ₹2.39 lakh and going up to ₹2.54 lakh (both ex-showroom, India), the new Guerrilla 450 is a spirited new-age roadster take that welcomes newer riders into the Royal Enfield folklore. Has it been successful at that? Head here to read up on the sporty Royal Enfield.
The Harley-Davidson X440 is the brand’s first single-cylinder motorcycle after decades. Its new oil-cooled 440 cc single-cylinder mill has been developed in collaboration with Hero primarily for the Indian market. Priced from ₹2.39 lakh to ₹2.79 lakh (ex-showroom), it has this authentic roadster styling that is butch, beefy and American. It isn’t flashy and the H-D X440 doesn’t like to pretend. And when you combine this with that good low-end torquey engine, you end up with an enjoyable motorcycle to ride that can munch miles easily. How does it stack up against the newly launched Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 on paper, click the link here.
If Harley chose a more traditional approach, Hero opted for a much more modern neo-retro format for its own roadster in the form of the Hero Mavrick 440. Powered by the same 440 cc, single-cylinder but producing 2 Nm less torque, the Mavrick 440 offers the same low-end torquey nature of the motor at a much more affordable starting price point of ₹1.99 lakh. Moreover, the Mavrick 440 sits on a shorter wheelbase and thereby measures shorter overall, than the Harley-Davidson X440. It even seats low which is due to its scooped-out design. So, has that compromised the motorcycle’s capacity to be a good mile muncher? Check out our review. We even pitted it against the king of Indian roadsters, the Royal Enfield Classic 350. Watch this video to know how the Hero fares against the OG roadster.
The debut motorcycle to come out of the budding Triumph-Bajaj partnership was the Speed 400. Like a typical Triumph motorcycle, it was a sight to behold, right from its neat and clean fit and finish levels to those astounding rich colour options. Sure, It does have a few limitations, especially regarding its petite built. But just like the Guerrilla 450, the Triumph Speed 400 can captivate you, albeit in a much classier British style. Due to which, despite the ₹2.34 lakh (ex-showroom) price tag, the bike feels like quite the premium affair.
However, if all the above roadsters just don’t feel like they are to your liking – how about the no-frills, non-pretentious Royal Enfield Classic 350? It won’t try to impress you with performance, nor will it try to vow you with ‘hifi’ tech. It doesn’t scream for attention, especially with the latest J-Series engine. It is the epitome of chill, something that wants you to soak in the ride, and the beauty that you’ll find yourself surrounded by. Yes, it is rather pricey for what it offers, as ex-showroom prices start from ₹1.94 lakh to ₹2.25 lakh. However, for the utmost emotional connection, there’s no other bike in this list that does the job better.
