Bajaj Auto to expand product lineup with new designs and price points
Bajaj Auto is set to launch two new Triumph motorcycles in the 400cc segment. The new models are expected to hit the market before the festive season, but details remain scarce.
Sources have revealed that the new Triumph motorcycles will feature updated designs and price points, aimed at boosting sales to 10,000 units per month. One of the models, the Thruxton 400, has been spotted testing, showcasing a semi-faired, sportier design inspired by the Triumph Thruxton R. The second model remains a mystery, with speculations ranging from a Street 400 to a Daytona 400 or even a Speedmaster 400.
Triumph Thruxton 400 has been spotted undergoing testing. Test mules of the bike have been seen sporting a café racer front cowl, a minimalist rear LED tail lamp, and downward-moved indicators on the USD fork to accommodate the fairing. The test bikes also feature a square-shaped pillion grab rail, distinguishing them from the roadster variant. While the majority of the bodywork closely resembles the existing Speed 400, these design tweaks give a glimpse into the Thruxton 400's unique styling. The test mules were seen rolling on Pirelli Rosso 3 tyres, although it's likely that the India-spec model will use locally-sourced tyres. The second model's design is unknown, but it may take cues from the Street Triple or Daytona, with a more aggressive stance and styling.
The new Triumph motorcycles will be powered by the same 398.15cc single-cylinder engine as seen on the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X. The engine is expected to produce a similar power output of 39.5 bhp and 37.5 Nm, with the same chassis and underpinnings as the existing 400cc models.
Bajaj Auto aims to increase production capacity to 10,000 units per month by October 2024, with the new models expected to drive sales growth. The strategic partnership between Bajaj Auto and Triumph has resulted in the successful launch of the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X, and the new models are expected to further strengthen their presence in the market. The partnership has been a successful one as the British brand has sold and exported over 50,000 units of the 400cc bikes in the very first year of its production.
