The KTM 390 Adventure R will be revealed in full glory at EICMA 2024 next month in Italy.
Adventure motorcycle enthusiasts have reason to be excited, as KTM just showcased the India-bound 390 ADV R, albeit in camouflage. In turn, the Austrian brand gave us a clear image of the host of promising features that will be available with the adventure bike, which suggests a significant upgrade from its predecessor.
For starters, while the rally-inspired body design doesn't come as a surprise anymore, minute details like the sleek single-piece seat hint at improved rider mobility for off-road excursions. The prominent, elongated beak cannot only be seen here clearly, but it also gives an aggressive stance and promises to provide enhanced protection from debris on rough terrain.
Like before, the upcoming KTM 390 Adventure R will also be built around the same trellis architecture, which will be sprung by adjustable WP Apex USD fork and mono-shock with possibly longer travel than the current bike. Either way, the adventure-ready persona is further reinforced by dual-purpose tyres wrapped around 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoke wheels, a combination favoured by serious off-road enthusiasts. We just hope that KTM has used tubeless tyres, and not gone for tubed tyres like Royal Enfield did with the Himalayan 450 at its launch.
Beyond that, the Dakar-style tall, upright dual-projector LED headlight is quite eye-catching and should provide excellent visibility in various riding conditions. We also expect KTM will equip the Adventure R with multiple ride modes, traction control, and switchable ABS as standard.
Under the rugged exterior lies KTM's latest 399 cc LC4c engine, borrowed from the 390 Duke, which will power the Adventure R. This powerplant is expected to deliver the same punchy 45.3 bhp and 39 Nm, just like the naked bike – thus making it ideal for both cruising and trail exploration. Furthermore, an underbelly exhaust muffler keeps the profile slim while likely offering improved ground clearance.
The 2024 KTM 390 ADV range will make its global debut at the 2024 EICMA motorcycle show in Italy next month with a probable India launch by late 2024. As for its price, given the slew of updates the KTM 390 Adventure R will debut with, we expect it will be priced above₹3.40 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards. Either way, it will be an expensive affair, but will it be better than the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 – the current segment leader? Stay tuned to this space to find out.
