Volkswagen has been working on a fully-electric version of the Polo for some time now. The German carmaker earlier in December 2025 confirmed that the battery-powered Polo will break covers in early 2026. To be officially known as ID.Polo, this electric hatchback is now slated to make its debut in May this year.
A near production-prototype of the car was showcased at the 2025 Munich Motor Show. Ahead of its global unveiling, images of the upcoming ID.Polo have been leaked on the internet. The final production version of the all-electric Polo has reportedly been clicked at a private preview somewhere likely in Europe. The images preview multiple variants of the ID.Polo including a GTI version of the hot hatch.
Based on the ID.2all concept which made its debut in 2023, the ID.Polo feels very familiar to the combustion-powered Polo on sale in Europe. The regular version of the ID.Polo flaunts a simple front end styling featuring a full-width light bar, a sealed-off grille flanked by sleek LED headlamps, vertically-placed LED fog lamps, and a sleek blacked-out air dam housed within the lower bumper.

The ORVMs have been redesigned with a more conventional look, while the rear door handles remain mounted on the C-pillar, maintaining a sporty and clean side profile. Meanwhile, the GTI variant of the ID.Polo gets a redesigned front bumper, a honeycomb mesh air dam, a signature red stripe under the Volkswagen logo, and a GTI badge that points towards its sportier character. Larger alloy wheels enhance its stance, lending it a stronger road presence while still retaining the look of a compact hatchback.
One can notice that the charging flap is installed on the right side, just above the front fender. As for dimensions, Volkswagen says that the ID.Polo measures 4,053 mm in length, 1,816 mm in width and 1,530 mm in height, along with a 2,600 mm wheelbase. This makes it bigger and most likely more spacious than its fossil-fueled sibling.

The ID.Polo is based on the MEB+ platform and will be available with three power outputs: 85 kW (114 bhp), 99 kW (133 bhp), and 155 kW (208 bhp). The more powerful ID.Polo GTI will come with a more powerful 166 kW (223 bhp) electric motor at a later stage. The all-electric Polo will be offered with two battery options: 37 kWh and 52 kWh, the former powering the 85 kW and 99 kW motors, whereas the 52 kWh unit powering the 155 kW and 166 kW electric motors.

The 37 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery can support up to 90 kW DC fast charging. The larger 52 kWh nickel manganese cobalt battery can support up to 130 kW DC fast charger. Volkswagen says the 52 kWh battery unit can provide a range of 490 km on a single charge. All variants of the ID.Polo will come with a front-wheel drive configuration.
