The Tiguan R-Line will come to India as a CBU import and will be available in limited numbers.
Just weeks after announcing that it will launch the new Tiguan R-Line, Volkswagen has now set a date for the launch of its full-size SUV. We’ve already driven the Tiguan R-Line and you can watch video below before it is launched in India on April 14, 2025. The Tiguan R Line will be available as a completely built unit (CBU) import and will come in limited numbers.
The Tiguan R-Line will be limited to 300 units in the first batch of imports, which will be coming to our shores in the April to June quarter of 2025. In India, Volkswagen sold the second-gen Tiguan in both 5- and 7-seater guises and also with an all-wheel drive setup.
The third-gen Tiguan R-Line is likely to only get a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine on offer. Globally, this engine is available with two states of tune – 201 bhp with 320 Nm and 261 bhp with 400 Nm – and both are mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The lower capacity petrol engine also gets a mild-hybrid system and the Tiguan R-Line also gets a plug-in hybrid version with 148 bhp and 350 Nm or 174 bhp and 400 Nm with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic. While the petrol engines are available with all-wheel drive, the hybrid versions only get front-wheel drive.
The exterior of the Tiguan R-Line has become a little curvier than the second-gen model that was sold in India. The R-Line has 19-inch wheels as standard and is also available with a 20-inch design, but mostly, the former should be available on the India-spec model.
Inside, the Tiguan R-Line has a 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen on offer as standard but a 15-inch unit can also be configured. We hope Volkswagen brings the larger touchscreen to India. The Tiguan also gets a ChatGPT-enabled virtual assistant, but it remains to be seen if that comes to India.
Volkswagen is expected to price the new Tiguan around ₹43-45 lakh*, while the outgoing model is currently priced at ₹38.17 lakh*. Once launched, the Tiguan will rival the upcoming Skoda Kodiaq, Toyota Fortuner (₹36.33 - 51.94 lakh*), Jeep Meridian (₹24.99 - 38.79 lakh*) and MG Gloster (₹39.57 - 44.03 lakh*)
*All prices (ex-showroom, India)
