Apart from the removal of the dual-motor variant, nothing has changed with EX40.
Volvo Car India has silently renamed the XC40 Recharge to EX40, nearly nine months after it was globally renamed. Furthermore, the EX40 is only available with a single-motor variant, the EX40 Ultra.
While the XC40 Recharge has been renamed, the C40 Recharge is yet to be renamed as the EC40. Expect this to happen by the end of this year or early next year. While the electric versions get the new nomenclature, the ICE versions retain the existing names – XC40 and C40. Both aren’t currently available in India but are available globally. The renaming has been done to standardise model names for all its electric models, to bring it in line with its other electric models like the EX30, EX90 and EM90.
Apart from the new names, nothing has changed with EX40. It is now only available with one powertrain – a single-motor RWD. It produces 235 bhp and 420 Nm and comes with a 69 kWh battery. It can do the 0-100 kmph run in 7.3 seconds and has a claimed range of 475 km.
Nothing has changed in terms of features either. It still comes with a 9-inch, vertically-oriented infotainment touchscreen, a 12.3-inch virtual instrument cluster, a 360-degree camera, a sensor-based ADAS suite, multiple airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts and more.
The EX40 is priced between ₹56.10 lakh (ex-showroom, India). It rivals the Hyundai Ioniq 5 (₹46.05 lakh), Kia EV6 (₹60.97 - 65.97 lakh), Mercedes-Benz EQA (₹66 lakh) and BMW iX1 (₹66.90 lakh).
