The Swedish carmaker will introduce the XC90’s second facelift as well as launch the EX90 in Europe.
Volvo Cars is ready to reveal the facelift of the XC90 SUV and will also launch the EX90 electric SUV in Europe on September 4. The XC90 has long been the flagship SUV of the Swedish manufacturer and is currently in its second generation. However, this will be the second facelift for the XC90. On the other hand, the EX90 made its global debut in late 2022 but is now going on sale, nearly three months after it went into production.
The second-generation XC90 SUV was first introduced in 2015 and the first facelift debuted in 2019. The XC90’s design isn’t likely to change much compared to the outgoing model. It is expected to get a new iteration of the iconic Thor’s Hammer LED DRLs with a revised fascia and updated rear-end design. It will also likely get a new design for the alloy wheels. Inside, the XC90 facelift is expected to get a revised dashboard with a new touchscreen.
The XC90 will continue to be powered by a petrol engine since Volvo discontinued its diesel engine line-up earlier this year. Interestingly, the last diesel car that Volvo produced was an XC90. Furthermore, the XC90 will also get hybrid powertrain options with a plug-in hybrid engine also in the works. Like always, the XC90 will be a very safe vehicle.
The EX90 is the brand’s all-electric full-size SUV that comes with a plethora of safety features. It comes with a LIDAR system with sensors mounted on the roof. Its ADAS suite also uses LIDAR in addition to various cameras and sensors. Volvo’s flagship electric SUV comes with a 111 kWh battery pack which the brand claims is sufficient for a range of around 600 km. The dual-motor EX90 produces up to 510 bhp and 910 Nm with its top speed limited to 180 kmph.
The electric SUV is likely to come to India in 2026 but as of now, there is no news if Volvo is planning to bring the XC90 facelift to our shores. However, since Volvo sells the outgoing XC90 in India, it seems likely that the XC90 facelift could also come to India after the EX90.
