The new update marks an increase from the previous limit of 30 seconds for voice notes on statuses. The extended recording cap will allow users to share more detailed thoughts, stories and announcements without interruption.

The new feature is being rolled out globally for Android and iOS users. Those who have updated to the latest version of WhatsApp will see the option to record and post minute-long voice notes alongside traditional text, photo and video statuses.

The development of extended voice messages for statuses has been ongoing for some time. WA Beta Info initially spotted signs of the feature in July 2022. WhatsApp introduced 30-second voice notes on statuses in February with the goal of enabling more meaningful sharing.

Now, screenshot evidence from the WA beta tracking site confirms the increased recording limit is live for some testers. To use the new capability, users simply hold down the microphone button to record, as they would for a regular voice note chat.

A wider rollout of the update that increases voice status limit is expected in the coming weeks.
