How does the Traffic Police levy the e-challan in Ahmedabad?
An e-challan is a digitally levied traffic challan imposed by the Traffic Police via an SMS sent to a violator’s registered mobile number. The SMS includes the information regarding the offence and payable fine.

The Ahmedabad Traffic Police has implemented multiple traffic rules and regulations to catch and penalise traffic violations. Below are a few of the critical traffic regulations one must know about in Ahmedabad.
Excessive speeding
Overspeeding is a serious offence in Ahmedabad. The Traffic Police penalises anyone who drives over the maximum speed limit. A fine of Rs. 1,500 is levied if two/three-wheelers are caught overspeeding. The fine for overspeeding is Rs. 2,000 for Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) such as cars, jeeps, etc. Vehicles other than LMVs can attract a fine of up to Rs. 4,000 when caught overspeeding.
Underage driving
A person must be 18 years old or over to legally drive a vehicle in Ahmedabad like other cities in the country. For an underage person riding a two-wheeler, the fine is set to be Rs. 2,000. However, the fine for underage driving other than two-wheelers is Rs. 3,000.
Not holding a driving licence
Driving without a valid DL or Driving Licence is another serious offence in Ahmedabad. If caught without a DL, a two-wheeler rider has to pay the penalty of Rs. 2,000, while three/four-wheeler drivers must pay a fine of Rs. 3,000.
Drink and drive
Driving in an intoxicated condition is punishable by penalty and/or imprisonment in Ahmedabad. The punishment for this offence may include Rs. 10,000 penalty and/or 6 months of imprisonment.
If an offender is caught drunk driving for the second time, the punishment can include a penalty of Rs. 15,000 and/or imprisonment of 2 years.
Violation of pollution standards
If a vehicle does not comply with the Government’s pollution norms, the Traffic Police have the right to impose penalties.
For lightweight two/three-wheeler vehicles, the fine for pollution violation is Rs. 1,000. However, drivers of four-wheelers must pay a fine of Rs. 3,000 for this offence.
