Tata Motors offers a wide range of car models in India, ranging from compact hatchback to full-size SUVs. Here is the Tata car model list in India.

Tata Cars: Key Highlights

Tata Motors offers a wide range of cars, including hatchbacks, sedans, and SUVs. Some of the popular Tata cars include the Tata Tiago, Tata Punch, Tata Altroz, Tata Nexon, Tata Harrier and Tata Safari. The cars are available in Petrol, Diesel, CNG and Electric fuel options.

Safety

One of the highlights of all Tata cars is safety. Yes, all new Tata cars feature excellent build quality and come with all the necessary safety features required to keep you safe on the roads. The result of it is the impressive safety ratings in the G-NCAP crash tests.

The Tata Harrier and Tata Safari have garnered an impressive 5-star safety rating from the G-NCAP crash tests. The same story continues with the Tata Punch, Tata Altroz and Tata Nexon. All three models scored 5-star safety ratings in the crash tests conducted by G-NCAP.

The entry-level offerings from Tata, the Tiago, and Tigor are also not lagging in terms of safety. Both models scored a commendable 4-star safety rating in the G-NCAP crash tests. Overall, one of the key highlights of Tata cars is its safety.

Design

Another notable aspect of Tata cars is their design. The new design philosophy is modern, sporty and elegant. It is one of the main reasons why Tata cars are so popular in the country.

Features

Tata Motors has also upped its ante in terms of features. All cars come with all the essential creature comfort features, and the top-end models get premium features like sunroof, automatic climate control, etc.

All in all, the key highlights of Tata cars are design, features, build quality and safety. The combination of these characteristics makes Tata cars suitable for Indian road conditions. And last but not least, the affordable pricing from Tata Motors makes Tata cars a complete package.

About Tata Motors

Tata Motors — the Indian automotive giant, entered the passenger vehicle market in India in 1991 with the Tata Sierra. After dominating the commercial vehicle space in India, the company ventured into the PV segment with cars like Tata Estate, Tata Sumo and Tata Safari.

In 1998, Tata Motors launched the Indica hatchback, which was a popular car in the country. Later, the company launched the updated version of the hatchback, the Indica V2. From then on, Tata Motors introduced several models, including Tata Indigo, Tata Indigo Marina, Tata Vista, Tata Manza, etc.

Notable Tata Cars

One of the notable products from Tata Motors was the Nano. It was introduced to the market in 2009. The Tata Nano was a microcar intended for daily commutes. The car was pitched as an alternative to two-wheelers due to its low price tag of Rs. 1 lakh (ex-showroom). However, the Nano lacked safety and features, and despite its low price tag, it failed to find buyers in the country. Finally, in 2018, Tata Motors ended the production of the car.

Post 2010, Tata Motors produced some of the modern-world cars like the Tata Aria, Tata Zest, Tata Bolt and Tata Hexa. All these cars featured Tata’s new-age design language and modern features, departing from the traditional old-school design of the previous Tata cars.

Tata Product Portfolio

Tata’s modern product portfolio includes cars like the Tata Tiago, Tata Punch, Tata Altroz, Tata Tigor, Tata Nexon, Tata Harrier and Tata Safari.

The Tata Tiago was introduced in 2015, and it gave us the first glimpse of the new design language. It was a no-nonsense hatchback with an elegant design language and all the necessary features. Later on, Tata Motors updated the Tiago with a facelifted version, bringing changes to the design and features. The hatchback also scored an impressive 4-star safety rating for adult protection in G-NCAP crash tests.

In 2017, Tata Motors launched the Tigor compact sedan, based on the Tiago hatchback. Similar to its hatchback sibling, the Tigor was a simple yet practical car with all the ingredients to make it an ideal family car. It came with efficient engines and good build quality, which earned it a G-NCAP safety rating of 5 stars.

Tata Motors entered the compact SUV segment in 2017 with the Nexon. It was one of the biggest launches from the Indian automaker, as it quickly became one of the best-selling cars in the country. Tata Motors brought several updates to the SUV, with the new facelift being the latest update. The Nexon also scored an impressive 5-star safety rating in the G-NCAP crash tests.

Fast forward to 2019, Tata Motors ignited the mid-size SUV segment with the launch of the Harrier. Based on the new design language, the Harrier stood as the company’s flagship vehicle. With its modern design inside and out and a host of modern features inside the cabin, the Harrier became a crowd-puller. Similar to other Tata cars, the Harrier scored a 5-star safety rating in the G-NCAP crash tests, reflecting Tata’s focus towards making safe mass-market cars.

The Indian car maker entered the alluring premium hatchback segment in 2020 with the Altroz. The Tata Altroz is a sporty hatchback with power-packed engine options. The car not only looks sporty but also offers an engaging driving experience. The Altroz is also packed with modern creature comfort features to offer a pleasant driving experience. The Altroz, too, set a benchmark for safety by obtaining a 5-star safety rating from the G-NCAP.

2021 witnessed two new Tata cars, the Tata Safari and the Tata Punch. The Tata Punch is a micro SUV taking on the likes of Renault Kwid, Hyundai Exter and Maruti S-Presso. Whereas the Tata Safari is a 7-seater SUV based on the Harrier with a similar design language as the Harrier. Both the cars received a 5-star rating in the G-NCAP crash tests.

Tata Motors has also spread its wings in the electric cars segment with the Nexon EV, Tiago EV and the Tigor EV. All three cars offer good performance and range and are ideal for daily commutes. They are not only eco-friendly cars but can be pocket-friendly in the long run as you can save a lot on fuel costs.

Tata Market Share

Currently, Tata Motors has a 13.7% market share (as of H1 2023) in India and sits in the third position in the list of highest-selling car manufacturers. Tata has a robust product portfolio, and we can expect a steady growth in its market share.

Upcoming Tata Cars

Tata Motors has also lined up several new cars in the coming years, including the Tata Sierra, Tata Curvv, etc. The manufacturer is also focussing on EV mobility with new models like Tata Harrier EV, Tata Altroz EV, Tata Punch EV, Tata Curvv EV, Tata Sierra EV, etc., in the pipeline.
