The recall is for a possible defect in the fuel pump motor, an issue that has occurred for the second time.
Maruti Suzuki has issued a recall for the Wagon R and Baleno hatchbacks. Around 16,000 units of the two hatchbacks have been recalled due to a possible defect in the fuel pump motor. The recall affects 11,851 units of the Wagon R and 4,190 units of the Baleno manufactured between July 30 and November 1, 2019.
In a regulatory filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange, Maruti Suzuki stated that in rare cases the faulty fuel pump motor may lead to engine stalling or engine starting issues. Furthermore, it also stated that Maruti Suzuki service centres will contact the owners of affected vehicles for replacement of the faulty part, free of cost.
Maruti Suzuki did not mention which engine of the Wagon R is affected. The hatchback is available with a 1.0-litre petrol engine and a 1.2-litre petrol engine. Both get the option of a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT. The Baleno is only available with the 1.2-litre petrol engine and comes with the choice of either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT.
This is the second time Maruti Suzuki has recalled the Wagon R and Baleno for a faulty fuel pump. In 2020, the brand recalled nearly 1.34 lakh units of the two hatchbacks, manufactured between January 8 and November 4, 2019. At the time, the issue affected the Wagon R with the 1.0-litre petrol engine and the Baleno with the 1.2-litre petrol engine.
