The A5 e-hybrid PHEV gets two powertrain options and two body styles.

Audi has revealed the first of its 10 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) slated to debut in 2025. The first is the A5 e-hybrid that will be available in sedan and station wagon body styles, and it is based on the new A5 that debuted in July last year.

The A5 e-hybrid is available as a sedan and station wagon (above).

The new A5 PHEV gets two powertrain options – a 295 bhp version and a 362 bhp version. Both these powertrains are available with both body styles. The internal combustion engine (ICE) is a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 248 bhp, which is mated to an electric motor developing up to 141 bhp. The higher-power powertrain develops as much power as the standard S5. Both the PHEV versions come with Quattro all-wheel drive as standard.

The higher-powered A5 PHEV is as powerful as the S5, both producing 362 bhp.

The higher powered A5 PHEVs can sprint from 0-100 kmph in 5.1 seconds (claimed), while the lower powered versions can do it in 5.9 seconds (claimed). For perspective, the S5 can do the same run in 4.5 seconds (claimed). All the PHEV variants are limited to a top speed of 250 kmph.

The A5 PHEV come loade with all the tech the A5 has to offer.

The A5 e-hybrid variant gets a 25.9 kWh battery pack, which Audi claims can be charged from 0-100 per cent in 2.5 hours using an 11 kW charger. All the variants have an electric-only range of 110 km on a full charge. They also get improved regenerative braking, which can be adjusted using the paddles on the steering wheel. The e-hybrid variants also get two special driving modes – Hybrid and EV.

It remains to be seen if Audi will bring the A5 PHEV to India.

While the A5 will definitely come to India sometime soon, it remains to be seen if Audi India will consider bringing the PHEV variants. However, we really hope it happens since it will help set Audi apart from the competition, which currently lacks the PHEV option.
