In June 2023, Maruti Suzuki India reported a marginal increase in domestic sales. Despite the challenges faced by the automotive industry due to the ongoing global chip shortage and the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Maruti Suzuki managed to maintain its positive momentum. The company reported cumulative domestic sales of 1,59,418 units in June 2023, representing a marginal 2.28 per cent increase compared to the 155,857 units sold in the same period last year.
Although the growth may appear modest, it is significant considering the market conditions and supply chain disruptions faced by the auto industry. These disruptions have led to production cuts and extended waiting periods for customers across the country.
A statement shared by Maruti read, “The shortage of electronic components had a minor impact on the production of vehicles. The Company took all possible measures to minimise the impact.”
In June 2023, Maruti Suzuki sold 78,525 units of the Maruti Suzuki Alto, Maruti Suzuki S-Presso, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Maruti Suzuki Swift, Maruti Suzuki Tour S, and Maruti Suzuki WagonR compared to 92,188 units sold in June 2022, degrowth of 14.82 per cent.
Maruti’s SUV range comprises of Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Maruti Suzuki Jimny, Maruti Suzuki S-Cross, and even the Maruti Suzuki XL6, which accounted for 43,404 units in June 2023, as compared to 18,860 units sold in the same period last year. The cumulative PV sales stood at 133,027 units in June 2023, recording a growth of only 8.43 per cent.
